Argyle Vs Wednesday: team news

Sheffield Wednesday make the long trip to Plymouth on Saturday looking to cement their place in the top six of the Championship table.

With an international break to follow this game the Owls will be eager to go to the break on a high by extending their winning run to three games.

Wednesday, who will thankfully be making the trip south on Friday, may be forced into changes to the defence that kept a clean sheet against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday as both Richard Wood and Peter Gilbert are awaiting the all clear.

If either player is unable to play then Mark Beevers, who came on as a substitute for Wood against Forest, will return to the starting eleven.

In midfield Sean McAllister is suffering from a back problem and will be replaced by club Captain Steve Watson if he is unable to overcome this.

Striker Francis Jeffers showed a glimpse of what he is capable of with a cameo appearance from the bench on Tuesday and with Deon Burton missing a host of presentable chances that evening he could be in contention for his first start of the season. However, Wednesday could also have Jermaine Johnson available again and could revert to a 4-5-1 formation that they have used at times, especially in away games recently.

Plymouth are managed by ex-Owls boss Paul Sturrock and he has been very complimentary of the Owls fans ahead of our visit to Home Park. Speaking of Wednesday on Plymouth's official website he stated that "the fan base there is second to none and I had my best ever day in football with them which was the play-off final."

Former Owls favourite Steven MacLean has fallen out of favour and the strike force that the Owls face is likely to include on-loan Blackburn forward Paul Gallagher and Rory Fallon although Emile Mpenza is also in contention.

Another former Wednesday player, Yoann Folly could face his former employers. The midfielder has featured in five league games so far this season, albeit mainly from the bench.

Wednesday will be hoping to continue a good recent record at home park which has seen them collect 7 points from their last three visits.

Both sides are on a good run of form which has seen them each collect 11 points from their last six games with just 1 defeat each during this period.
