Blackley has left a similar role at Plymouth to join his former boss at Hillsborough and has immediately got a tough job to do - hopefully his influence will be invaluable to Wednesday during this transition period.
The Owls lost at home to Chester who fielded an under-strengthened team to beat Wednesday at Hillsborough 2-1 and could have even got more goals as the game drew to a close when it was a game on paper which was a home banker, with due respect to Ian Rush's men.
Paul Sturrock was fuming after the game and despite the performance coming in the least important competition of the season, he threatened changes after keeping with the same team that beat Wrexham.
The Scotsman fumed: "I'd probably got preconceived ideas when I got here that the fan base was the problem - that's not the problem, it is the players that are the problem and I have left them in no doubt that they will have to change or I will change them."
Sturrock's first league game at home comes this Saturday against MK Dons - the first time The Owls and the old Wimbledon FC have met.
