Boss eyes double success!

Obviously, his first priority is leading Wednesday into the championship by beating Hartlepool on Sunday but he may take 90minutes out to watch Dundee United try to beat Celtic in the Scottish cup final on television on Saturday.

40,000 Wednesdayites are set to descend on Cardiff for what promises to be one of the best atmospheres since the club were in the UEFA Cup in 1992 and a record-breaking attendance by a single club for a play-off final.

Sturrock is very much looking forward to becoming the hero though, and he said: "I have only ever managed small clubs and even at Dundee United when we went to six cup finals there were between 22-23,000 fans.

"It is going to be a big occasion and the hairs will be up on the back of my neck when our fans start singing," he told the Yorkshire Post.

Sturrock knows though that he could face immortality in Wednesday folk law if he leads the team back to glory although he is modest in his achievements so far.

He added: "I have said all along that any manager could either turn into a legend here, or he will disappear and be another manager that tried and failed. Sooner or later, someone was going to turn it round."

On United, who he was linked to earlier in the season but wants to carry on the challenge at Hillsborough, he said: "I am very pleased they managed to stave off relegation and am delighted they have reached the cup final and qualified for Europe - It is a magic time to be a United supporter.

"The important game this weekend is Sheffield Wednesday but it would be magic if Dundee United could make it a double success."
