Boss hits out at Owls

Michael Turner was dismissed for The Bees following his scything challenge on Steve MacLean who buried the resulting penalty.

As the game went on, Wednesday had their chances but two quick breaks enabled Alex Rhodes and Deon Burton to snatch an unlikely victory.

When Wednesday had failed to take any of their opportunities leading up to the hour mark, there was a sense around Hillsborough that Martin Allen’s men would at least get on the scoresheet – and they did that to steal the show.

Sturrock felt for the long-suffering supporters after the game and said; “It must have been exasperating to have been a
Sheffield Wednesday fan over the last two or three seasons.

“That hasn’t happened just once at this football club, it has happened regularly. We’ve been 1-0 up against ten or eleven men and ended up drawing or losing. It’s a mentality problem.”

Speaking off the record with one player after the game, he agreed with Sturrock by saying ‘Wednesdayites must be slashing their wrists at times’, especially when Wednesday have held a lead SIX times this season and gone on to either draw or lose the game.
