Boss is mystified over start

Four league defeats from four games with the only high points coming from victories in the league cup at Rotherham and in extra time against Hartlepool.

No good vibrations around Hillsborough when Brian Wilson gave Bristol City a lead after some neat pass-and-move football - something Wednesday have looked reluctant to do all season - although Marcus Tudgay should have buried a chance only seconds before the visitors scored after scuffing his shot wide.

No complaints about the possession but the defence looked shaky at times and there was no cutting edge in attack despite decent opening cameos from Akpo Sodje and the tricky Etienne Esajas.

Laws said afterwards: "I must admit I am surprised to see us down there and I didn't see it coming. They had one shot and have scored and from then on we had to chase the game. But we have been very unlucky again and I feel like I must have run over a black cat.

"The players are having a good go but it is just not happening for us. They are feeling a bit sorry for themselves but I have told them that there is not an awful lot wrong.

"Hopefully we can work on a few things over the next two weeks. It will be a long two weeks but hopefully we can put things right and get our season off and running against Preston."

There's no doubt the club need to completely regroup and get a much-needed win at Preston after the international break - maybe it is not time to panic just quite yet as Sunderland were in a similar situation to Wednesday last season.

Now I am not saying that Wednesday are going to run away with the league - but I think a few results in our favour will give us some much-needed confidence and things will snowball from there, hopefully!

Meanwhile, Frankie Simek has been linked with a move to Arsenal - the club where he started his career before being released in 2005.
