Both managers confused over opener

Steve MacLean pounced on Luke McCormick's error when the Argyle stopper seemed to drop the ball under pressure from Deon Burton.

The Scottish striker then tapped home to give Wednesday the lead when every spectator in the ground thought that Burton had fouled Plymouth's 'keeper.

After the game, Laws said: "I've not seen a replay of the goal, it was a bizarre one and it will be interesting to hear what the referee has to say about it. I don't know if Deon collided with their 'keeper and he dropped the ball or what happened."

Needless to say Pilgrims boss Ian Holloway was not amused by the decision by referee Rob Lewis, the same referee who famously ruled out Pedro Mendes' goal against Manchester United when the then-Spurs midfielder's long distance shot crossed the line but nothing was given.

Holloway said: "I have to say I think one of my old favourite cartoon characters Mr Magoo would have seen that. I don't think anyone in the ground would have been bothered if he'd blown up for a free-kick."
