Brunt and ex-Owl on new era

Pearson, now a summariser for Radio Sheffield, was critical of the club’s treatment of Chris Turner by saying he should have had more time to do the job he set out to do.

But he thinks that the players are professional enough to get on with things with the new man in charge.

He told Footymad: “Chris has brought in fourteen players of the current squad and they will be absolutely gutted and think that they have let him down.

“At the end of the day thought you have to be professional about it and get on with the job and now it is their chance to impress a new man and some players who may have been out of the picture are suddenly back in it again.”

“Depending on how quickly Paul Sturrock can get the players to settle and play his way, promotion still has to be the aim - automatic promotion may be out of reach but the play-offs are obtainable because I personally don’t think this is the strongest of divisions."

Brunt meanwhile has been in and out of the team this season but shown flashes of brilliance, especially against Huddersfield and Coventry. He believes that every player will start from scratch as they bid to impress the new boss.

He told Footymad: “Everyone is in the same boat as me now with the new manager coming in and we are back to square one but all the lads have to keep their heads up and continue the hard work on the training pitch and we will no doubt get results from it.

“It was definitely a shock when Chris got the sack; it totally came out of the blue. I must admit I don’t know much about Paul but he obviously has a great track record in this division with Plymouth and fingers crossed he can get us out of this division this season.”
