Brunt urges concentration - exclusive

The Northern Ireland international winger is looking forward to the two biggest games of his fledgling career and says that if the club lose focus for just one second, then the season could end in disappointment.

Brunt told Footymad: "We are coming up to our two biggest games of the season and we need to concentrate for 180 minutes and we have shown we can do it, especially against Chesterfield away – as far as I can remember that was our last good start and when we have played consistently over 90 minutes. But we are a young team and we were two goals down against a good side in Bristol City and we did well to get ourselves back into the game.

"One of the main reasons I came to Wednesday is because it’s a big club and going places but hopefully we can win the game and pick ourselves up from the loss on Saturday."

Brentford have no doubt been one of Wednesday's bogey teams this season after coming from behind with ten men to win at Hillsborough and returning from the dead to salvage a draw at Griffin Park but Brunt believes that The Owls were the better of the two teams on display on both occasions.

He added: "We should have beat Brentford at home but we let in two bad goals at the end and the same goes for when we were down at their place but if we concentrate for the 90 minutes we should be alright - we are confident now.

"We have done well to get where we are and we can’t go and shoot ourselves in the foot now but hopefully we can take heart from the Hull game and the second half of the Bristol City game and do well on Thursday night."

As for playing at home first, Paul Sturrock wanted the Hillsborough leg to come second but with The Bees having home advantage on Monday - Brunt says that playing on the road does not phase the players.

"I don’t think it makes much difference playing at home first to be honest," he admitted. "I think with some of the performances we have had this season it proves that we can be better away. But hopefully we get a good crowd in here on Thursday, they get right behind the boys and with any luck we will do the business."
