Bullen in positive mood - exclusive

The defender came on as a substitute at Southend at the weekend and he thinks that if Wednesday can replicate their form on the road at Hillsborough this season, it would give everyone a massive boost.

He told Footymad: "We have to go into the Stoke game positive. Southend had a 100percent record at Roots Hall before we came here so it's good to be the first team to come down to get points off them so we have to take some benefit from that.

"Stoke beat us at home last year so we owe them one. We know they have got some really strong players especially the three big lads up front who will cause problems for any team this season but if we play to our potential then we have every opportunity to take three points but we can't take any teams lightly in this league, not one at all because we know that every game will be a battle. But if we do battle and get the little breaks then I can't see why we can't take all three points."

With the likes of Marcus Tudgay, Deon Burton and Steve Adams getting their first-team chances after injury, Bullen is even more positive.

He added: "You can see from the bench against Southend that the boys are starting to come back because we had five senior lads on there instead of scholars so that will bode well for a much, much stronger squad and then we have another four or five to come back after that.

"But if we can keep everyone fit then we will start pushing up this league - if Marcus Tudgay can get a few more games under his belt then that will be a massive boost for the club, Stevie Adams coming in to will help add more bite to the midfield area so that's great and that is the sort of problem that the manager wants."

Tudgay may start from the bench tonight with perhaps Kenny Lunt taking his place after Paul Sturrock said the former Derby striker was looking tired although the rest of the squad should remain the same from the stalemate at Southend.
