After a torrid run of 7 successive defeats Sheffield Wednesday fans have found something to smile about over the past 2 weekends. A hard fought 1-0 win at local rivals Barnsley was followed up this weekend with a 2-0 home win against Charlton.

A first half stunner from Rhys McCabe gave the Owls the lead and after just about keeping the Londoners at bay in an open second half, Jeremy Helan sealed the points in injury time, drilling low past the keeper after embarking on a mazy run.

The other teams in trouble at the bottom of the Championship also picked up points, Peterborough beating Bolton at home, Barnsley pulling off an unlikely injury time win at Millwall while Ipswich and Bristol City shared the spoils at Portman Road.

Dave Jones side now find themselves out of the relegation zone by virtue of having scored more goals than Barnsley as the 2 teams have the same points and the same goal difference.

Peterborough remain bottom of the table, 2 points behind the Owls and level on points with Bristol City. Ipswich are 3 points ahead of Dave Jones side but they have by far the worst goal difference in the division.

Wednesday travel to Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day followed by a trip to Huddersfield next Saturday
