Clarke now set to go under the knife

Owls striker Leon Clarke is set to undergo knee surgery tomorrow that will leave him sidelined for around a month.

The operation was originally planned for last week but was put off due to a shortage of fit strikers at the club and Clarke played through the pain.

The player has failed to hit it off with the fans when he first arrived from Wolves last year and has spent loan spells and Oldham and Southend.

Supporters still have their doubts about him but since his recent return there has been a noticeable improvement in his attitude and fitness and hopefully this will continue further when he returns from surgery.

The move to allow the player to have the operation having previously opted to delay this will add to the belief that the Owls are likely to bring in another striker on loan.

Brian Laws has been thought to be interested in doing this and the rumour mill has linked the club with a number of Premier League strikers including Robert Earnshaw of Derby, David Connolly of Sunderland and Fulham's David Healy.

Connolly was thought to be the number one target but has since suffered an injury setback while the availability of Earnshaw is questionable given that he has recently had a run in the Derby side.
