Coughlan off the hook - exclusive

The Irish defender was carried off against County on Tuesday night although the club have been boosted with the news that he has not broken his ankle and could be fit for the Loftus Road clash.

But after four injury-free seasons at Plymouth, frustrated Coughlan got injured straight away at Hillsborough in pre-season, then he played a game-and-a-half before going down at Stockport in agony.

After his first competitive 90 mintues for the club at Ipswich on Saturday, he told Footymad: "After the Manchester City game I was getting a bit down after I had to go off it’s frustrating in pre-season when you get fit and do all your running in preparation for the season and it’s a pain in the backside when you get an injury to be honest.

"I have been carrying a knock for a few weeks and I just wanted to get back playing again but getting back with the boys after a while out is fantastic and the physio John Dickins sorted me out right as well. I’m not quite 100percent just quite yet, I’m still feeling the knock but I have had a week or two in the physio’s room and that’s long enough for me!"

With The Owls not knowing how fit the defender will be for tomorrow night, Coughlan knows the importance of the game, especially when the club needs to start picking up wins in the league.

He added: "Every game is a big, big game for this club, especially when you look at the predicament we are in with no wins after four games but needless to say, every game we go into we want to win and we will be looking for three points in London. If we play down there like we did in the second half against Ipswich, it will only be a matter of time until we get some breaks going for us and three points."
