Coughlan on Ipswich defeat - exclusive

Paul Sturrock’s men got off to the worst possible start by conceding in the first ten minutes to Richard Naylor’s header – a goal which looked offside in a half which proved to be a very poor showing from The Owls.

But Wednesday woke up in the second half and they were unlucky to concede a goal against the run of play after Ian Westlake struck a cracker into the top corner but Lee Peacock’s header gave The Owls hope late on which only proved to be a consolation.

Coughlan though thought the home side were dominant in the first half but believes the visitors should have got something from the trip.

He told Footymad: “It’s always disappointing when you lose and we were not happy with the first goal because we thought the boy was offside so we will have to watch that on the video but I think we more than matched them in the second half.

“In the first half though they gave us a bit of a footballing lesson because they passed the ball well and always found space because their movement was different class – it shows we still have lots to learn about this league.

“In the second half, it was much more of an even game but unfortunately we didn’t get any luck. When their second goal came, some could have thought we were dead and buried but we came back well. We are not happy about being beaten but we can take lots of positives out of it.”
