Wednesday’s first-ever league game with Torquay finished 4-2 in The Owls’ favour following goals from Steve MacLean, Graeme Lee, Lee Peacock and Paul Heckingbottom.

Although shaky at times in defence, especially with the home side equalising twice, Turner’s troops showed their quality and ran out comfortable winners in the end.

The Owls boss said: “To come away from home and score four goals is very pleasing.

“I thought Torquay pushed us for 60 or 70 minutes and deserved to come back as for the first 45 minutes, we didn’t play particularly well but we sorted a few things out, made some substitutions and it worked well for us.

“We didn’t pass the ball well at times and we can do better than that. It was pleasing to see Steve MacLean, Lee Peacock and Paul Heckingbottom score their first league goals for the club.”
