The Owls picked up their first win in nine games against Burnley on New Year's Eve and followed that up with an impressive 3-0 win against fellow strugglers Crewe two days later.

During that winless streak, Wednesday also failed to hit the net in seven games but defender Wood says that Paul Sturrock's men always believed in themselves.

"Confidence has always been high," Wood told Footymad. "We are a good bunch of lads, we all know our own abilities but getting a few wins lifts us even more and getting the two new strikers as well gives everyone a lift because the crowd get excited and that helps the players."

Wood is partnering Graham Coughlan and both players are doing very at the moment, but the 20-year-old also heaps praise on fellow defenders Frankie Simek and Peter Gilbert.

He added: "Graham and I are playing well at the moment, he is very good to play alongside but all the back four are currently doing well and hopefully our form will continue."
