Does lack of news on ticket sales speak for itself?

For many years now Sheffield Wednesday have been regarded as a very well supported club and their home ticket sales have reflected this.

Even in the last 10 years or so when, for the main part, the results have been nothing to get too excited about, the fans have still turned out in their droves.

The club reported in early July 2006 that over 14,000 tickets had been sold for the 06/07 season, comparing that to just over 16,000 for the previous campaign.

Last season the figures were hit somewhat by the flood which meant major disruptions to the ticket office.

This time round there has been no news at all regarding sales and, having enquired about moving seats I have been informed that it looks like there should be plenty of alternatives available once the final deadline for renewals has passed.

In addition to this, Channel 4 News recently conducted a survey in which they contacted all 24 Coca-Cola Championship clubs for information on ticket sales in comparison to last season. Wednesday's official response to Channel 4 News online was that this was confidential club information and as such they were the only club in the division not to supply any information at all - does this tell its own sorry story?

Fans forums certainly seem to indicate that sections of the support have become disgruntled with the way the club have dealt with a number of issues and significant increases in adult season ticket prices were met with disappointment, especially considering the loyal backing the team has received during difficult times.

Sadly it seems that off-field matters may have a detrimental effect on the teams support for next season.

City rivals Sheffield United were reported to have sold around 19,000, while the other South Yorkshire Championship clubs, Barnsley and Doncaster were around the 8,000 mark.
