Sheffield Wednesday have secured the services of Dutch defender Joost Van Aken on a permanent deal from top flight side Heerenveen for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old signed a 4-year deal at Hillsborough on Wednesday and is likely to be in contention for a first team place when the Championship resumes following the current international break with the Owls are short of available options at centre-back at the moment.

Van Aken made almost 100 appearances for Heerenveen and featured 26 times for them last season.
