End of season report, Number 23: Jermaine Johnson

Last updated : 11 June 2008 By C. Morris

JJ was a key player in the Owls fine run towards the end of the 2006/07 season and the fans were looking forward to him making a big impact this term.

Unfortunately this failed to materialise and his overall contribution has been significantly less than potential had indicated.

As JJ showed in the home derby against Sheffield United, he clearly has the ability to perform at this level but performances of this standard have been few and far between and there has been little consistency.

In the latter stages of the season he was called upon to fill in at right-back and an otherwise solid display against Coventry at home was spoilt by a moment of madness in the final few minutes leading to Coventry's goal. It would be unfair to blame JJ solely for this though as it came as a big surprise to many to see such an attack minded player given this responsibility at such a crucial stage of the season.

Overall verdict: 6 out of 10. Both the player and the management team need to find a way of adding consistency and end product to the ability that he has.
