Ex-Owls keepers receive mixed reviews

Internet football site, livefootballtoday.com has reviewed the state of top class English goalkeeping today and this has highlighted the merits or otherwise of those who have kept goal for the blue and white stripes.

The article serves to highlight the current lack of depth we have in the number 1 position in this country and calls into question the ability of young hopeful Scott Carson.

Those who remember Carson's loan spell at Hillsborough will do so with largely fond memories as he played a pivotal role in the Owls run to Championship safety in 2006.

Since then however his potential has seemingly not been fulfilled with top clubs reluctant to take him permanently and he is not having the best of times of late at WBA.

The article goes on to list a top ten of all time England goalkeepers based statistically on clean sheets for their country and not surprisingly 19060's Wednesday keeper Ron Springett makes the list.

More of a surprise is the inclusion of Chris Woods. Woods made 43 appearances for the national team but whenever he is mentioned in conversation amongst Owls fans memories of the debacle at Brammal Lane spring to mind as well as the heart breaking 1993 cup final replay winner for Arsenal.
