Sheffield Wednesday's defeat at Mansfield on Wednesday evening could prove to be more costly than any dented pride due to the loss at the hands of the lower league outfit.

Towards the end of the 2-1 defeat Fernando Forestieri appeared to be dealt an off-the-ball forearm smash when running from midfield as the Owls broke forward. The incident went unseen by the referee and the forward took his frustration out with a crude challenge moments later for which he was booked.

Players from both sides confronted each other and after the final whistle matters boiled over again, Mansfield defender Butcher copped for a bloodied lip and Owls centre-back Tom Lees received a flying kick to the chest. Many more players got involved as the trouble continued into the players tunnel.

While it is unusual for disciplinary action in the shape of suspensions to be applied to competitive matches from incidents taking place in pre-season games the two clubs could be looking at potential fines as a result of the unsavoury events.
