Flash helps Owls chase hitman

Little-known 21-year-old Forbes has excelled in non-league football and scored a mighty 76 goals last term, and has netted 350 since 1999 alone.

Other clubs are looking at the player who was City's hero in their FA Vase triamph but he would jump at the chance of joining The Owls, who have been linked with seemingly thousands of strikers in the last few weeks.

Winchester director of football David Malone is looking for around £30,000 for the hitman, a fee that should be no problem for Wednesday although no official bid has been tabled as of yet.

He told the Southern Daily Echo: "Turner was at the Vase final and I believe he wants Forbesy but can't get anyone to authorise the money.

"But it looks very much as though someone will come in for Andy and if they meet the valuation we have of him then we're happy to let them talk to him, but we won't sell him to the first person that comes along. It's only fair to Andy that we keep all the options open."

Watson, who lives in the Southampton area said: "I was asked by Chris to compile a report on Andy Forbes and from the people I spoke to, he seems to have all the attributes.

"But I'm told he's a homely kid - a lot of clubs have watched him in the past and you have to wonder why no-one has really made an offer for him."
