Gaffer hails 5-0 Saints drubbing

A brace a piece from Glenn Whelan and Akpo Sodje as well as a Burton O'Brien marker gave The Owls their best victory for a number of years and stunned even the most optimistic Wednesday fans with their display.

Laws says that the belief and confidence which the team displayed at the back end of last season has raised it's head and is now counting on a good run to get Wednesday into the play-off positions.

On the back of a victory at Plymouth and a draw against West Brom, Laws said: "I think it has been a terrific week of results for us, Southampton was a terrific performance and I am absolutely delighted for the players because they are now showing the team spirit that we had last year.

"It was quite evident then that if you work hard you can get results and today we have really performed as a team.

"You can point your finger at individuals and say Sodje has two goals and Whelan got two goals but, all in all, it was team effort and the only way you can get those opportunities is by hard work. That's what we showed and it's credit to the players."
