Gilbert ready for Colchester

The former Leicester and Plymouth left-back has been ruled out with knee problems for most of his Owls career so far but following a loan spell at Doncaster, he is ready to be given a chance.

Brian Laws is happy with the work Tommy Spurr has done at left-back but the youngster is badly in need of a rest so Gilbert should be a like-for-like change.

But Steve Watson, Jermain Johnson and Wade Small will all miss the game against Colchester because of injury so the likes of Kenny Lunt and Graham Coughlan can push for first-team recalls.

Coughlan has been away in Ireland on compassionate leave and has not been available since Wednesday's win at Leeds although it is expected he will be on the bench.

Small meanwhile could face an operation to cure his knee ligament troubles - if so then he will miss the rest of the season.
