Goal hero McMahon 'chuffed'

A late strike from the 19-year-old gave The Owls a great win at Blackpool last night although if it was not for the agility of David Lucas in goal, the 2-1 scoreline could have been very different.

Lee Bullen opened his and Wednesday’s account for the season with a precise drive following up on a save from Sasa Ilic in a performance which at times looked very impressive for Chris Turner’s men.

But smiling ear to ear was the modest McMahon, who said afterwards: “I am so chuffed after scoring my first goal; it is something I have been waiting my whole life for and many more to come hopefully.

“It came when it just got knocked down by either Macca or Peacock and I looked up and despite seeing someone in the distance but the goal was there so I just cracked it.

“But praise has to go to the defenders, I don’t know how the lads did it, there was some amazing determination there. There is a great team spirit here now and the gaffer’s got a great bunch of lads in here now, we have had all pre-season together and now we are happy to get the campaign underway.”

There was no place for Adam Proudlock last night as he was involved in a minor car crash but was uninjured.
