Guy - give us time to deliver

The former Rotherham defender, who was a rock at Blackpool (no pun intended!) on Tuesday night, is set to be one of the major players in Wednesday’s squad this season.

Already a great team spirit has been shown by the current crop of Owls and Branston just hopes fans do not get on the side’s back should results not go their way, like the season opener against Colchester.

He told Footymad: "The fans have to remember it was not us that were here last season and we need time.

"We are still getting to know each other and I don’t care what anyone says – five or six weeks together just is not long enough to click straight away so we have to get a few wins put together so we can start looking forward."

So far, no strikers have hit the net for The Owls this season with the club's only goals coming from a defender and a midfielder at Blackpool, but Branston has faith in one of Chris Turner’s new recruits to be particularly lethal.

"Steve MacLean is proving to be a good forward," he admits. "He scored goals last season, he hasn’t got off the mark yet but when he does, he’ll score loads."

Wednesday head south tomorrow for the first-ever league meeting with Torquay and Branston says that the last thing the club needs is a defeat following one of the most arduous journeys of the season.

He continued: "You don’t want to go anywhere and lose, let alone after a five-hour trip but you have to go on the road aiming to get results and it is about being professional during training and during match days.

"Torquay will be a hard-working side and if they are anything like Doncaster were last season you have to worry about them."
