Hamshaw's the shining light

The Rawmarsh product has arguably been one of the most impressive performers in the Ibiza tournament as well as clashes at Barrow and York during the club's preparation for the new campaign.

During Saturday's clash at Bootham Crescent, Hamshaw showed all his skill, grit and determination down the right and will give Jon-Paul McGovern a real run for a first-team spot after upgraded his month-to-month deal for a one-year contract last week.

Assistant boss Colin West said that the 22-year-old has 'grown in stature' this summer and his decision to make Wednesday's longest-serving player captain against Barrow was good for him.

He has missed the last year of football due to injury but now looks back to his best.

But it is not only Hamshaw who is looking impressive. Patrick Collins looked very calm at the back, Lee Bullen was very strong at right-back, Chris Marsden and Glenn Whelan could be a crucial duo in the middle of the park while Lee Peacock and Steve MacLean have the potential to be Wednesday's best strike force for years.

Chris Brunt scored one and made another for Peacock on his debut at York, after gifting the home side an early start.
