Happy New Year to all Wednesday followers

Last updated : 30 December 2007 By C. Morris

As the new-year approaches I would like to wish all Wednesday fans a good one and hope you all enjoy bringing in 2008, whatever you may be doing tonight.

The best way to do this is to forget about our football team for a day, as the festive season has brought us little to cheer on the pitch.

Whatever state you may be in come New Years day, get down to Hillsborough if you can for the Preston game and give the Owls your vocal support for 90 minutes, the way the season is going this is as important a game as any so far.

I know we haven't had a great deal to shout about, losing more than half our league games to date tells its own story and I am as disappointed as anyone with the direction in which the club has headed for the majority of this season both on and off the field but while the players are out on the pitch we need to give them our full backing, even more so when things are going as badly as they are at present.

The defeat at Hull was in truth a lacklustre performance but as ever, the away support did all they could to lift the players and if we can create a good atmosphere on Tuesday then hopefully this might have a positive impact on the players.

The return of Sodje has to be a plus as his presence and work-rate alone should rub-off on his team mates and we will be able to play with a better shape and purpose than has been the case throughout most of December.

All the best from the Owls-mad site.

PS: Well done to all at Hull who paid a fitting tribute to Phil O'Donnell, I am sure that more Wednesday fans will have the opportunity to pay their respects in similar fashion at Hillsborough on New Years Day.
