Heff may not come cheap

Notts County hitman Heffernan, who has scored more goals that both Adam Proudlock and Mark Robins put together this season, is reportedly in talks at Hillsborough.

County director Steve Thompson today warned the likes of Wednesday and other clubs that they will not get out-going Heffernan on the cheap, with the club willing to chance the often risky transfer tribunal rather then sell the 21-goal for the equivalent of what Wednesday are willing to pay - most likely a bag of balls.

The Meadow Lane club have received phone calls from clubs who hope to pick up the Irishman on the cheap now, to avoid a transfer tribunal, but Thompson says that they would be wasting their time.

"What we would say is that, if any club is planning to come in with an offer of £50,000 or £100,000, just don't bother," he told the NEP. "Don't waste our time or yours.

"Because we believe he is worth a lot more than that, and if it comes to it, we will risk a tribunal to prove it.

"When you look at the transfer market and the young strikers who have moved clubs in recent times, we would value him in excess of £1m."
