Hornets Vs Owls: team news

Sheffield Wednesday travel south to Watford on Saturday as they look to continue what has been a much improved record on their travels in recent weeks.

Wednesday are likely to go with the same squad that came so close to a victory at Preston on Tuesday night with striker Leon Clarke remaining out of the picture due to a hamstring problem and winger Wade Small having just joined Blackpool on loan.

Akpo Sodje scored again for the reserves in midweek but is again expected to be on the bench with Francis Jeffers putting in a much improved performance alongside Marcus Tudgay at Deepdale.

Frank Simek, Richard Hinds and James O'Connor may also be pushing for a starting place but considering the quality of the Owls last display it would be a surprise if Brian Laws did not name an unchanged starting eleven at Vicarage Road.

Watford will be without the services of Captain Jay DeMerit as he has not recovered sufficiently from an injury picked up last month.

Hard working front man Tommy Smith is also unavailable after sustaining a knee injury last weekend.

Polish striker and former Owls target Grzegorz Rasiak is also doubtful having picked up a groin injury in their midweek victory against Nottingham Forest.

Wednesday recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over the hornets at Hillsborough near the start of the season but have struggled on their recent visits to Vicarage Road. The Owls last win at Watford came in November 2000 and they have lost on each of their past four visits since then.

In terms of current form, the Owls have improved on their dismal overall away record this season with two wins and a draw from their last four away matches.

Watford have won ten and lost five of eighteen home league matches this season but a good run of form of late has seen them pull away from the relegation zone. They have five of the last six games in the Coca Cola Championship.
