Individual end-of-season reports: Francis Jeffers

Francis Jeffers came to Hillsborough in 2007 with a reputation as an injury-prone striker looking to find his feet again having once famously been coined as "the fox in the box" for his knack of popping up in the right place at the right time to poach goals.

Sadly his first season with the Owls was once again plagued by injury as he failed to make it into double figures for first team starts in 2007/08.

Although the injury problems were still apparent in 2008/09 they were less of a problem and the scouser made the starting eleven 20 times in league and cup and made over 30 1st team appearances in total.

Despite the increase in games Jeffers struggled to find any sort of consistent form and managed a return of just 3 goals, averaging one in around every seven starts and one goal in every 10 games if substitute appearances are taken into account.

This lack of goals has seen him fall down the pecking order behind Tudgay, Clarke and Sodje when fit and his poor return makes him look an expensive gamble considering the outlay Wednesday put down for him in relation to other recent signings the club has made.

It is hard to see another club coming in at this stage and taking the kind of gamble that Wednesday did on him and so with one year remaining on his contract he looks set to be at Hillsborough next season but it will take a lot for him to earn a place in the side, never mind win the fans over.

Overall Verdict: 4/10.
