Individual end-of-season reports: Leon Clarke

Last updated : 26 June 2009 By C. Morris

Stocky striker Leon Clarke took a long time to get going in a Wednesday shirt but at times during 2008/09 he showed what he is capable of and made his self a viable option in the Owls attack.

Prior to this season Clarke had won few friends at Hillsborough, being criticised in certain quarters for his weight and attitude and for not making the most of his physique on the pitch.

This past season however has seen him make a positive impression, putting himself about so as not to give defenders and easy ride and thus creating opportunities for others.

There were times when games passed him by and his contribution was minimal but thankfully these had definitely become the exception rather than the rule and his return of 8 goals in 20 league starts is worthy of praise.

At times he made it hard for Brian Laws to drop him even when other more established options were available and many of the fans have warmed to him and are expectant of him rather than being straight on his back as used to be the case.

Overall Verdict: 7.5/10
