Individual end-of-season reports: Lewis Buxton

Last updated : 28 June 2009 By C. Morris

Lewis Buxton joined the Owls on an initial short-loan period to cover for a shortage of defenders back in October and had a difficult start to his Wednesday career.

He looked uncomfortable when he made his debut in the defeat at Barnsley and that game was the start of a run of three successive league defeats.

Buxton's early form was perhaps not helped by the fact that he had only played a handful of 1st team games for his then parent club Stoke City since 2006 and he may have been finding hard to adjust to the pace of proper competitive games.

Following this shaky start Buxton began to settle into the side, so much so that he was rewarded with a permanent contract in the January transfer window, extending his stay at Hillsborough to 2011.

Buxton went on to make 32 league appearances during the season and his defensive versatility makes him a useful member of the squad.

As his confidence grew he was able to come into his own and he is often assured in possession and is able to support attacks when playing as a full-back.

Buxton's solid performances meant that there was no need to rush 1st choice right-back Frank Simek back into the team and the American will need to come back fit and raring to go next season if he is to dislodge Buxton of his place in the side.

Overall Verdict: 7/10.
