Individual end-of-season reports: Number 1-Lee Grant

Last updated : 10 May 2009 By C. Morris

Lee Grant not only established himself as a firm favourite amongst the Sheffield Wednesday supporters this season but stood out as one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship and even earned praise from within the England set up.

He was singled out for his performances in winning a PFA fans player of the month award and he is clearly held in high regard by his Wednesday team mates as he was once again voted as the players' player of the season.

Last season he was criticised at times for his positioning and the fact that he did not appear to command his penalty area but he has improved in these areas and although from time to time he makes some debatable decisions on crosses he has cut out the errors that led to him being directly at fault for some poor goals conceded during 2007/08.

Grant has recently been offered an extension to his existing contract and is acknowledged as a key member of the Owls squad.

Overall season rating: 8/10.
