Interesting Owls inclusions in team of the week

Following their well deserved 1-0 win at Carlisle at the weekend it wasn’t too surprising to find that 2 Wednesday players had made it into the League One team of the week as featured on the official football league website, www.football-league.co.uk

What was a little surprising however was that one of the Owls players to be chosen was goalkeeper Nicky Weaver. Most Wednesday fans would acknowledge that Weaver has been one of the clubs most consistent performers in what has been a largely disappointing season to date on the field but last Saturday wasn’t one of his more notable displays. The Owls keeper was forced to make only one save of real quality as the home side managed to register just two shots on target in the entire game, hardly his busiest afternoon.

The inclusion of Tommy Spurr in the best eleven of the week was more understandable as the left-back produced a solid display to help keep the previously in form Carlisle side at bay. The left-back was also eager to support going forward and it was from his in-swinging corner that captain Tommy Miller managed to grab the only goal of the game. Spurr has struggled to find the form that saw him develop as one of the Owls most improved players a couple of seasons ago but at just 23 years old he still has time on his side, hopefully he will be able to produce these kind of displays on a more consistent basis.
