The 34-year-old veteran is out of favour at Pride Park and could be the experienced head that Brian Laws has been searching for.

Johnson, formally of Notts County and Birmingham City, has captained The Rams and is in contention to join up with the squad and be part of the team which plays against Hull, subject to paperwork being completed.

The defender, no relation to Owls' winger Jermaine, will wear the number 29 shirt in his month at Hillsborough.

Meanwhile, while the club's board maybe taking legal action against some fans who have made alleged defamatory remarks on web postings, Laws assures fans he is not taking the same road.

He said in a statement: "It has been suggested that I wish to pursue legal action against certain supporters but I would like to state categorically there is no truth in this whatsoever.

"The fans at Sheffield Wednesday have been superb to me and I would not consider taking any legal action against any supporters of this club."
