Laws pledge to Owls fans

Frank Simek's first-ever Hillsborough goal put The Owls one-up and the scoreline was doubled when Matthew Mills put through his own net soon after in a comfortable 2-0 win.

The score could have even been more and Chris Brunt was mightily unlucky to see his left-foot drive rebound off the post in the second half.

A mid-table finish was expected by chairman Dave Allen at the start of the season and under former boss Paul Sturrock, the club looked to be on a downward spiral.

But following Sturrock's sacking following the away game at Colchester earlier in the season, Laws admits there is still absolutely everything to play for.

Laws said: "Motivation is going to be a key issue because the supporters pay good money and although we're relatively safe, it could get spread into the minds of the players that we've got nothing left to play for. But let me tell you that there's a hell of a lot to play for.

"One is pride in our performances, another is the fans who pay top dollar to watch and they expect top dollar performances. Players' contracts are also up, so they've got to keep playing for that reason as well and that certainly showed in the performance against Colchester."
