Loan deal done

Sheffield Wednesday have completed their search for a loan striker by bringing Luke Varney to Hillsborough for a second time.

The 26-year-old scored twice in four games for the Owls last season and comes back to the club from Derby until the end of the year.

Varney will not be able to play against the Rams when the Owls visit Pride Park in October under the terms of the loan agreement and he is also cup tied in the Carling Cup but is available to face Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Injuries to Leon Clarke and Akpo Sodje have prevented both strikers from featuring so far this season and Wednesday have been looking to bring in a striker to cover for their absence.

The club had been linked with a number of young Premier League based strikers but the move for Varney sees a player return to the club who was able to form a good understanding with his Owls team mates last season and so may not need as long to bed in as a more inexperienced and unfamiliar player may have needed.
