Loan watch: Sodje stunner earns Charlton a point

Sheffield Wednesday striker Akpo Sodje joined Charlton Athletic on loan last week in a bid to get more playing time to improve his match sharpness and find some confidence in front of goal.

The tall front man once again found himself on the bench as Charlton travelled to Yeovil but came on at half-time and had an immediate impact.

Having seen his brother Sam sent off in the first half and then witnessed his team mates concede the opening goal just before the break it seemed as though the visitors were in for a fruitless afternoon.

The introduction of Sodje however changed the complexion of the game and within minutes Akpo has found the back of the net, only to be denied by an offside flag. There was no denying him just before the hour mark though as he brought the ball down on his chest before unleashing an unstoppable drive from 25 yards to bring the scores level.

Sodje went close to winning the game for the visitors, seeing another powerful drive turned onto the post by the Yeovil keeper in what was an action packed 45 minutes for the Owls man.

Wednesday have not seen this kind of form from the talisman this season which is why he was allowed the opportunity to go out on loan. Charlton are thought to be interested in the possibility of making the deal permanent and with his current contract coming to an end in the summer plus his recent injury record the Owls may be open to offers but an inform Sodje offers something that Wednesday do not have in their other options up front and if he can continue this kind of form in the next few weeks then Brian Laws will surely be eager to welcome him back at Hillsborough.
