Sheffield Wednesday’s traditional pre-season warm up games against local opposition resulted in a win and a draw this evening. In Dronfield the Owls were held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield FC and at Stocksbridge Wednesday ran out 4-0 winners against Stocksbridge Park Steels.

The Owls fielded a mixture of first team players and youngsters in each squad with both games kicking off at the same time. Against Sheffield, the likes of Bywater, Llera, Semedo and O’Grady lined up with new signing Joe Mattock and on-trial striker Marlon Harewood.

The Owls took the lead in the first half through Chris O’Grady but were pegged back in the 2nd half after a host of substitutions.

At Bracken Moor the team included Weaver, Reda Johnson, Lines and Madine with new signings Amado, Maguire and Lee.

Wednesday eased to a 3-0 lead in the 1st half thanks to goals from Madine and a double from Maguire.

As with the game at Dronfield a great number of changes were made during the 2nd half with the main players rested as the youngsters were given an opportunity and late on one of the young substitutes completed the scoring.

The Owls now fly out for a pre-season training camp in Portugal where they will play 2 warm up games against Reading and Sporting Lisbon.
