Sheffield Wednesday travel to St Mary's to face Southampton on Tuesday night with recent history very much in the home sides favour.

While the Owls will be able to draw heart from the 5-0 thumping of the Saints at Hillsborough last month their away record against them makes for sorry reading.

Wednesday last beat Southampton away in the 1997/98 season with Paolo Di Canio amongst the scorers for Ron Atkinsons' side in a 3-2 victory at The Dell. Wednesday were beaten there the following season and also in the 1999/00 relegation season. The Owls have faired no better at St Mary's, suffering defeats on both league visits since returning to the Championship.

The Owls hope to have Yoann Folly available for selection again after the midfielder missed Saturdays defeat at home to Colchester having been granted compassionate leave due to a family illness.

There are still problems in defence with skysports.com reporting that both Michael Johnson, who also missed Saturdays match and Frankie Simek face late fitness tests. Club Captain Lee Bullen is standing in line for a recall should either player be ruled out.

Deon Burton's knee injury will keep him out again and with Marcus Tudgay struggling for form at present the Owls look short of options in attack. Brain Laws could opt to play Akpo Sodje up-front on his own and bolster the midfield or play with two wide men in support, however he did seem to experiment with this during the second half on Saturday to little effect.
