Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Stephen McPhail's short spell at the club is coming to an end and he has chosen to accept the offer of a 1-year deal at Shamrock Rovers in Ireland's Premier League.

McPhail played 14 times for the Owls this season, helping them towards an upturn in results after a difficult start to the season.

In speaking of his departure in an interview published on the Owls official website, www.swfc.co.uk the 34-year-old praised the impact that Stuart Gray has had since taking the reigns and wished the club well for the future.

Wednesday were dealt a midfield blow in midweek with the news that Jose Semedo faces upto 2 months on the sidelines but they have brought in Aston Villa's Gary Gardner on loan and have Giles Coke returning from suspension in addition to the likes of Kieran Lee and Rhys McCabe in central midfield.
