Sunderland Vs Wednesday: Team news & preview

Sheffield Wednesday travel north to face Sunderland in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening and Jos Luhukay has picked a team with a blend of young and established players.

Wednesday were expected to make wholesale changes as is customary for the early stages of the League Cup but will field the likes of Bannan, Reach, Fletcher, Boyd and Lees alongside academy graduates Palmer and Wildsmith academy prospect Hunt and fringe players Van Aken, Matias and Nielson.

Sunderland have started well following their relegation to League One last season with 4 points from their opening 2 games and they make 6 changes for this clash. Former Owls captain Glenn Loovens will not feature but ex Wednesday winger Chris Maguire starts for the Black Cats.

The Owls are looking for their first win of the season having piked up just a point from two Championship games so far. They won 3-1 at the Stadium of Light when the sides faced each other at the back end of last season.
