New twist in striker search

The Gers are Boyd’s boyhood club and knowing that he could opt for them in the summer when his contract runs out puts Wednesday in a difficult situation.

The Owls are keeping tight-lipped about the whole deal but Rangers are only willing to bid around £250,000 for the 17-goal hitman, knowing that they could get him in the summer on a free.

But Kilmarnock are looking to cash-in on their prize asset and according to their chairman Michael Johnston, Wednesday are in negotiations already.

He told the Sheffield Star: "We're happy for Wednesday to make contact with him and we've told him that. It's a good offer as far as the club is concerned.

"It's fair to say that Rangers have been following the situation closely. We have had an approach from them but not of any substance. Any discussions we've had with them aren't as advanced as the position we've reached with Wednesday."
