One win from 1 third of the season

Sheffield Wednesday failed to impress yet again this weekend, this time in front of the live TV cameras at Hillsborough as Huddersfield walked away with all three points thanks to a 2-1 win.

A first half goal from Martin Paterson was added to in the 2nd half by Adam Clayton and ultimately Connor Wickham's well struck free-kick goal was little more than a consolation for the Owls as it came deep into injury time at the end of the game.

Although Paterson's opening goal had a major suspicion of offside about it, it was little more than the visitors deserved as they controlled the first-half with little resistance from yet another tepid Wednesday performance. James Vaughan missed a golden opportunity to wrap up the points early in the second half. That miss combined with the half-time introduction of Jermaine Johnson briefly gave the Owls display some life but Clayton's goal with just over 20 minutes remaining sealed the result.

Dave Jones' side have now won just one of 16 matches in league and cup this season and look set in for another season of struggle. The manager has spoken of the difficulty with the weight of expectation playing in front of the home crowd this season but away results have hardly reflected a difference in fortunes with no wins on the road to date and only 4 teams in the Championship have scored less goals on their travels than Wednesday have managed.

In addition to their goal scoring problems Wednesday are yet to keep a clean sheet this season and have rarely looked like putting an end to the statistic, regardless of who is picked to play at the back. Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland was dropped on Saturday despite performing admirably in front of an at times hapless defence this season.

The only consistent goal threats that the Owls possess come from short-term loan players that are due to go back to their parent clubs in the not too distant future and with the defence continuing to struggle there is little sign on the horizon of any great hope of things turning around any time soon.
