The new fixtures for the forthcoming season have been released this morning and there is something of a surprise up first for Wednesday with a local derby at Hillsborough.

Barnsley will make the very short trip south on Saturday 8th August and the Owls will be looking for revenge following the Tykes home and away double against them last season. Wednesday will travel to Oakwell in January.

Following the home Carling cup tie against Rochdale Wednesday then face two away fixtures against new Championship opponents as they travel to Peterborough on Saturday 15th before visiting title favourites Newcastle the following midweek.

The first Sheffield derby will take place at Bramall Lane on September the 19th with the return fixture at Hillsborough coming just three games from the end on the campaign on April 17th.

Wednesday have an attractive home match against Newcastle on Boxing Day and will be at home to Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace for the final game of the season, the first weekend in May 2010.
