Owls ace on target but to no avail

Sheffield Wednesday attacker Nejc Pecnik enjoyed a fruitful international break this week as he scored twice for his native Slovenia, albeit in a 3-2 defeat at Macedonia.

The Slovenian’s found themselves 2-0 down at the break in this friendly fixture on Wednesday evening but Pecnik’s introduction from the bench at half-time sparked life into the visitors performance as he netted either side of the home sides 3rd goal.

The Owls summer signing, sporting a new shorter hair cut, tapped home at the back post 5 minutes after his introduction and his 2nd goal was a cool finish after latching onto a through ball on the right-hand side of the penalty area.

Pecnik has struggled to hold down a place in the Owls team recently and has stuck on the bench for a while. He failed to impress playing in a wide role during the teams poor run in September but did show glimpses of what he is capable of in the first few games of the season when deployed behind the main striker.

He will no doubt hope that his international exploits were noted by Dave Jones and he gets another chance in the Owls side soon. Wednesday are still searching for the right formula in the attacking third of the field and have been linked with a number of loan options this week, both in terms of players coming in and going out at Hillsborough.
