Sheffield Wednesday have been given a major boost at this early stage of the season with the news that full-back Tommy Spurr has signed a new contract at Hillsborough.

Talks between spur and the club had stalled over the summer but the popular 21-year-old has now agreed to extend his time with Wednesday in a deal that is set to run to 2013.

Spurr is a product of the youth academy and the youngster has made the left-back spot his own in recent seasons with wholehearted, accomplished performances, he has made well over 100 appearances for the Owls to date.
