EFL award Wednesday a bye
Sheffield Wednesday have progressed to round 2 of the League Cup following the EFL's decision on Tuesday to award the club a bye.
The Owls were due to take on Bury at Hillsborough in the 1st round of the competition last Tuesday but the match was called off due to Bury's ongoing financial issues. To date the EFL have not been satisfied that a suitable financial plan is in place to keep the club going throughout the season and as a result they are yet to kick a ball in competitive football in 2019-20. Should they not provide a suitable resolution by the end of this week then they may be thrown out of the league.
Lee Bullen's side now face a short trip to Rotherham on Wednesday 28th August for their 2nd round clash. The Owls allocation of 2,552 tickets will go on sale from Wednesday 21st August.
