Solid home start continues against Hatters

Sheffield Wednesday put their first defeat of the season at Millwall at the weekend behind them on Tuesday evening as they picked up a hard-earned 3 points against Luton Town.

Lee Bullen made three changes to his starting 11 with Barry Bannan, Moses Odubajo and Morgan Fox replacing Kieran Lee, Dominic Iorfa and Liam Palmer. The game started brightly with both sides looking an attacking threat. Tunnicliffe fired a first time effort just over the bar at the end of a neat passing move while Slugo produced an acrobatic save to deny Harris at the other end.

The lively start fizzled out as the half wore on and both sides seemed to struggle to gain the upper hand.

Kicking towards the Kop in the second half, Wednesday clearly lifted the tempo and began to press much higher. Within 10 minutes they got their reward. Murphy intercepted a short throw from the Luton keeper and crossed the the back post where Fletcher nodded down for Harris to tap in from close range.

Fletcher then had a goal ruled out as Borner was adjudged to be offside when nodding it into the path of his team mate, Murphy headed a good chance over the bar after being set up by the lively Harris and substitute Luongo fired just wide having dribbled his way into the box from the corner flag.

Westwood was rarely troubled in the second half though Fox did produce a timely tackle late on to prevent the chance of an equaliser.

The Owls now have 9 points from their opening 3 games and travel to Preston North End on Saturday.
