Owls back to winning ways in style

Sheffield Wednesday ended a spell of 5 games without a win in emphatic style at Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The Owls romped to a 3-0 win to maintain 6th spot in the division.

Wednesday welcomed back Fernando Forestieri after a 2-match man and the little forward, playing off Gary Hooper in attack, was influential in the victory. The former Watford man almost gave the Owls the lead early on but was twice denied by De Vries in the home goal.

On the half-hour mark Forestieri won possession on the halfway line and fed the ball to Barry Bannan who skipped past his marker before sliding a pinpoint pass into the path of Aiden McGeady who fired past De Vries to the delight of the away fans behind the goal.

Right on half time Hooper picked out Forestieri in the box but De Vries did well to palm away the strike on goal.

Forest came out with more intent after half-time but failed to test Westwood and by the hour mark the visitors had taken a firm grip on the game. The tireless Forestieri robbed Mills of the balls 35 yards out and advanced on the penalty area before playing in Hooper who beat De Vries to double the Owls lead.

Wednesday were given something to think about with 15 minutes to go when Barry Bannan was shown a red card. The Scotland midfielder mistimed a sliding challenge in the Forest half and was somewhat harshly given his matching orders.

Even with 10 men the Owls were rarely threatened and managed to put the icing on the cake when Nuhiu nodded down for fellow substitute Matias who advanced past a defender before finding a cool finish.

Wednesday face struggling Charlton Athletic at Hillsborough next Saturday in the final round of fixtures before an international break.
